So this is a going to be a subject which is probably going to get some negative as well as positives but from my point of view here is what I think of the use of social media in the fitness industry.
The Good Points
Social media is seen by everyone and can be seen very quickly I think it is a great way to be able to show new work outs you have done, this will give people new ideas and help keep them motivated along their fitness journey.
Showing your own progress can help to motivate other people as they will be able to relate to you and it will also keep you accountable,
Access to apps that can help you with new work out and food ideas, this again is going to help when it comes to keeping on track and can help to vary your workouts so you don't get bored.
Access to coaches and professionals who will offer help and advice, it is beneficial to get advice from trained people in the field particularly if you are new to exercise.
The Bad Points
For all the good there is on social media there are a lot of bad points these are the main things I have found.
With all the access to good trainers and professionals on social media there are also a lot of poor trainers who might not even be qualified to be giving advice, this is going to lead to people getting incorrect advice.
Social media is full of fitness models who show off their abs, biceps and bums this can every disheartening for the viewers, you are always going to be comparing yourself to what you see. It is important to remember when looking at these pictures that photo shop is a real thing and not all of them are real.
Social media companies are getting out of control, as someone who loved the idea of losing weight in a short space of time with these "amazing" products these "coaches" who most of them don't have any qualifications in health, fitness or nutrition. These people try to sell you a quick fix or they want you to join them getting more people the sell these products. I have made this mistake in the past and now I know what I am doing I wont be making the same again.
Yeah social media can be a good thing but you have got to be careful about how you try to use it. Make sure you get advice from qualified people to make sure you are getting the right information.
